Hey Guys-
As I am trying to get back into Airsoft again, the biggest thing I have been lacking is a gun of my own. While all the members are great and there always seems to be a gun available for use, I would like to get a gun of my own that I can get adjusted to.

With that said, money is a little tight (isn't it always) and so I am trying to figure out what would be my best bet in a gun that I could use in the widest range of scenarios? I was looking at either an M4, Carbine, M733, etc... Basically, the M4/M16 Variant guns. But, I'm wondering what others suggest.

On a similar note, is there a particular brand or brands that are better or have certain qualities that make them more desirable then others?

My biggest concern is that I want a gun that, once purchased and configured to shoot at the proper FPS, I will just have to worry about the basic maintenance stuff for a while. I previously had a TM MP5 that I had to tear down after every Op and it got very frustrating for me.

Thanks.

Steve,

Currently the most reliabel singe aeg is the HK G3 in any variant. The gear box is easy to access and easy to swap if necessary. It can be confugured in many different styles from wood furniture to modern rail systems. A great all arounfd aeg.

The most reliable gun on the market is the Marui AK-47. It's a solid reliable gun. It's only drawback is that their isn't a lot of accessories.

The Marui M-4 is also a good gun. It's best point is that you can accesorise it till your heart is content.

As Matt mentioned the G-3 is also a good gun and is one of the most easiest to get to the gear box.

Well, another thing I've been curious about. There obviously seem to be several manufacturers of these guns. The 2 most common names I have heard are Tokyo Murui and Classic Army. I'm wondering, are there certaing brands that are or are not better?

I know the gun I was using was a Tokyo Murui and I had a lot of problems with it. But, I think a lot of it was that I believe the previous owner may have mistreated it a bit, plus I believe the MP5 A4's as I had are not designed the best, at least not from what I saw of them when I tore mine down.

I think most would agree, either a HK G3 variant like Matt said or an M4 variant would be the way to go. Personally I like TM guns the best but thats just my opinion. My HK G3 SG1 has been the most reliable gun I have owned and even the Hk 51 carbine I won way way back at Savage garden 1 was a great gun. I went straight to the SG1 ( used ) after that gun and its first game was DT 1 and ran my first 1 into the ground for several years until I had to go buy a new 1 because it was suggested that I not even bother fixing the first 1 since it worked so well for so long its playing days were just over and I had to retire her. Still have my second G3 SG1 to this day and its a few years old now. Hope that helps!

Well guys, sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead. I finally got a job that pays enough that I can afford a (economical) AEG. I have continued to do research and I am presently looking at one of the following guns:

- TM Carbine
- TM AK47
- AEX AK47M (TM AK47 "Modernized")
- CA SLR-105

I have heavily been thinking about the AK simply because it would be appropriate for many more operations. While not necessarily correct for US Ops, it works well for most other Insurgence. My issue is, the Wood Furniture does nothing for me, so even if I got the plain TM AK47, I would eventually convert it to a more modern version.

I am leaning away from the AK47M simply because, other than the color and a slightly shorter barrell, it appears to be the same stock gun. I would rather spend the $100 difference in getting some good batteries and clips.

I looked at the CA SLR-105 because it appears to be a more modern replacement to the AK47, although it appears to be a longer/larger overall gun. Plus the fact that its CA, not 100% sure if I want to stray too far from CA.

The Carbine is an obvious choice because of the previously mentioned items. While I'm not too big on the RIS Foregrips and other such attachments, a nice scope or other basic accessories might be handy.

What are your guys thoughts? At this point, I plan to run whatever I get stock for a while. Once I start coming more regularly again I think I will toss an upgrade in.

Thanks.
